Important Update: New U.S. Tariffs – What JustShip Users Need to Know
Starting April 5, 2025, the U.S. will impose a 10% baseline tariff on all imported goods, regardless of origin.
This policy may impact shipments sent from Singapore to the U.S., including those made through JustShip.
Here’s what you need to know:
🔍 What’s Changing
The U.S. is introducing a 10% tariff on nearly all imports, no matter where they come from.
This may affect certain shipments from Singapore, especially those above a specific value or product category.
✅ Duty-Free Shipping Still Applies (Under USD $800)
Unlike some countries (e.g. China), Singapore remains eligible for the U.S. de minimis exemption.
That means:
- Shipments valued under USD $800 can still enter the U.S. duty-free
- No formal customs clearance is required for qualifying shipments
Example: Jane runs a small Etsy store in Singapore. Her typical parcel is valued at USD $80 — it will continue to ship tariff-free to the U.S.
💼 What This Means for JustShip Users
If your shipment is over USD $800, it may now be subject to:
- A 10% U.S. import tariff in addition to any existing duties, taxes, or clearance fees
- Increased customs checks may cause occasional delays as the new system is implemented.
🛠️ How to Avoid Delays or Extra Charges
- Stay Below USD $800. Split larger shipments or reduce quantity where possible.
- Use strong product descriptions when declaring your items:
- What is it?
- What is it made from?
- What is the intended use?
- Example: “Used men’s cotton T-shirts, size L, blue”
- Avoid vague terms like “gift,” “clothes,” or “personal items”. They increase the chances of customs delays or incorrect duties
- Declare item values accurately and match them with your description
